Wind, Love, and Magic Light – A Coastal Engagement Session to Remember

Some sessions just come together in the most beautiful way — this was definitely one of them. When my clients reached out wanting engagement photos with a mix of tall grass and rocky beach vibes, I immediately thought of a location that offers the best of both worlds, right here near St. Petersburg Florida in the Tampa Bay Area. Where grassy fields melt into winding boardwalks, leading down to rugged rocks in ocean waves. On the day of the shoot, the wind showed up with a little more enthusiasm than expected — as coastal shoots often go — and understandably, the bride-to-be was a little concerned about her hair constantly blowing in her face. But honestly? That wind added so much movement and atmosphere. We worked with it instead of against it, and it helped bring an extra touch of life to every shot. The lighting that evening was nothing short of dreamy. Golden hour did its thing — warm, rich hues lit up the sky, wrapping everything in soft, glowy tones. It was the kind of light photographers dream of. Throughout the session, I blended traditional posing with natural prompts to capture both those timeless, frame-worthy moments and the candid, emotional in-betweens. Prompts like "tell each other your best worst dad joke" or "hold hands and walk like you're in your own movie scene" helped them forget the camera and just be present with each other. That comfort and connection truly came through in every photo. We started our session in a field of tall grass, where the gave us some amazing movement. From there, we strolled down a charming boardwalk and made our way to the beach. The final shots were on the tall rocks, with waves crashing and the sky showing off behind them — it was the perfect ending to a heartfelt session. It’s always my goal to not just take beautiful photos, but to create an experience where couples can feel confident, relaxed, and in love — and this session felt like all of that and more.
